In November 2022, the City of Tshwane announced plans to develop its own potable water production capacity and construct new water treatment plants over the next five years. This initiative aims to reduce reliance on external water providers and address ongoing water quality issues, particularly in areas like Hammanskraal. The plan includes completing Phase 1 upgrades and securing over R2 billion for Phase 2 of the Rooiwal Wastewater Treatment Plant project.
