Tshwane escalates ongoing water crisis to inter-governmental level

  • Post category:News

The City of Tshwane has escalated its ongoing water crisis to an inter-governmental level, seeking external intervention following a power trip at Rand Water’s Palmiet Booster Pump Station. The outage, which began on Wednesday, has severely impacted water supply across several areas, leaving critical reservoirs low and airlocks in the system preventing proper water flow.

City spokesperson Lindela Mashigo stated that efforts to resolve the issue are ongoing, with teams actively working to clear airlocks and restore supply to affected areas, including Laudium and Atteridgeville. In response to the crisis, the city has deployed 126 water tankers to supply water to essential services such as hospitals and impacted communities. Tshwane’s political executive and senior management have emphasized the urgency of the situation, reaffirming their commitment to addressing the water supply challenges as swiftly as possible.
